We are living in a time of great exposure, especially exposure to the effects of a fast pased digital reality.
Cellular extentions of ourselves have become an integral part of our work and how we reach people, we are even handing over our creative work to artificial intelligence, to AI script writers, which we humans have created, in an effort to save us time.
Time, which we intended to spend with our loved ones, because we would have so much more time saved when AI is doing our work for us.
Yet, our experience tells a different tale one of artifical intelligence overstimulation, resulting in a cascade of societal illnesses, including disconnection from loved ones and only vague memories of what it used to feel like to live as part of Nature, without EMF disturbance.
Instead of the promise of creating more time, we are cramming an endless barrage of images into every nook and cranny of our lives.
Many things in this world, vie for our affection and devotion.
The internet replaced the television and is available in our pockets, at all times.
Digital marketing, movies, images, sounds, opinions and information is available on demand and at our children's fingertips, regardless of their age or emotional maturity level. it seems the kingdom of childhood is waning.
The human being has created something for which the human condition was not yet ready, nor sufficiently prepared.
Digital masterminds tell us to be pleased that it is now possible to answer the smartest questions effortlessl, seeding the wish to be as smart as the fastest computers, if we would only insert the computer chip inside ourselves.
This may be advantageous for someone who has lost a limb or struggles with a neurological disorder, in order to give them a simulation of function, but how the actual simulate effect would feel from inside the person's own experience, remains to be better understood.
Placing the external sim (simulation ) inside our very own physical bodies, with the promise of gaining superhuman faculties, or to create a multitude of realities on command, may infact only provide us with a less human experience and have a numbing effect on our capacity to feel and empathise.
In such a case we would not have to develop any actual superhuman faculties, nor the ability for enhanced perception from inside ourselves resulting from our own human endeavours.
Instead, our own human endeavours would be replaced by an entirely artificial ones, in order to seem superhuman.
This temptation does sound kind of familiar. Perhaps reflective of the Eden story The story where innocent or unprepared humans were tempted to be as God and to gain knowledge of the difference between good and evil.
Yet, with knowledge gained, we human beings did not become immortal Gods, instead we experience a temporal life, often filled with great sorrow, conflict or pain.
We may have gained knowledge , but wisdom enough is needed to discern between good and evil.
Knowledge is accompanied by death and decay.
In Ecclesiastis 7:12 the verse points to both wisdom and money being a form of protection:
"For wisdom is a defence; even as money is a defence; but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it."
In this sense the knowledge that only wisdom can save a life, is valuable knowledge.
This brings me to the question: "What is consciousness?"
I have recently heard consciousness described as the ability to answer the smartest questions or the ability to do the most difficult calculations.
This description completely disregards the aspect of soul or the soul's awareness of itself and its surroundings as an integral aspect of our human experience.
Ancient texts did not distinguish between the "mind' and the "heart" in the same way we separated them in modern day science.
Ancient texts referred to human consciousness as being created in the image of God, comprised of 3 members, or a Trinity of body, mind and spirit.
There is an intimate connection between these members of the human organism, similar to the relationship among the members of the Holy Trinity.
Ancient text refer to physical factors that influence human consciousness but these factors do not initiate consciousness.
Ancient texts describe our human thoughts as something "other" than our own selves, there is a distinction made, since human beings can deliberately influence their own thoughts and perspectives.
Consciousness seem to fall in the realm of subjective experience, yet when we reflect on Decartes's maxim "I think therefore I am ", we still do not know more about the "I" that is doing the thinking.
Is consciousness the awareness of internal and external existence and an experience, feeling or perception, a mental event or a stream of content?
According to modern day science consciousness is controlled by the the lymbic system and long-term memory is stored in parts of the cerebral cortex.
Do our sense-memories truly originate in the hippocampus and are they also stored only there?
Does the complex network of nerves, found in the limbic system, regulate our behaviour and helps us manage our cravings and urges or do we actually manage ourselves with our will-sense, before there are chemical and nerve impulses occuring in the brain?
What is the human will?
Granted, the limbic system is connected to many nerve pathways that stretch into the body and certain outward experiences become inward, through the nervous system, or become triggered by memories, smells or sounds, which are then stored in the body as a library of sensory data, which may trigger powerful physical sensations.
Yet, this is still not an adequate explanation of what consciousness or human will is, because consciousness relates to the experience of becoming aware of ourselves within our own skin and consciousness is an experience of becoming aware of our relationship with our environment.
When we are asleep, we are less conscious of ourselves and our environment, yet as we wake in the morning we become more and more aware of our body, of the sensation of wellbeing or anxiousness in the body and of an urge to nourish the body or the will to do tasks.
These faculties are more or less asleep during the night when other faculties take over.
According to modern day science the lymbic system is the seat of much of our human experience, emotional regulating , sexual impulses, sense of smell and consists of the septal nuclei, considered pleasure zones, the hippcampus, which plays a role in consolidating new memories and spatial orientation, the amygdala, related to emotional processes and the nucleus accumbens, whis involves reward, pleasure and addiction sensations.
According to modern science the limbic system is known to store and control the emotions of fear, anxiety and depression and is always negtively influenced by sensory overload or deprived developmental environments. Yet, this explanation does not actually tell us how an emotion or a feeling comes about.
Furthermore, this empirical manner of defining the faculties of human perception, thought and consciousness, is rooted in the empirical world view, determined by the 5 sense theory.
The 5- senses are like doors mostly located in our head, except for the sense of touch, which, according to the simplified empirical view, is experienced as a result of the nerves that run from the brain and spinal cord into the limbs, organs and skin.
The pre-frontal cortex is viewed as the site where rational, logical, analytical, interpretive and complex thinking take place, yet is this truly the origin of the ability to think logically, as empirical science proposes?
We could ask, where do we find the faculty of Intuition, an inner sense or inner guidance, which help us be in the driver seat between the extremes of wild limbic impulses and barren logical calculations?
The mystery of our human experience does seem to lie beyond the definitions of limbic system, nerve system and cerebral cortex alone.
Could it be that the physical body goes through a long process of preparation, in order to develop a sense of consciousness, which can be translated, stored or experienced through the organs of the physical body and that our organs perform not only a function but also play a role with regard to perception.
Could it be that a human being's experience-awareness is not determined by his or her biology alone, nor by his or her DNA alone and even less so by a digital version of his/her Self?
Surely, intimate ideas, thoughts and resolutions are not the results of our Biology or DNA alone.
If we were to extend our human experiences further into the digital word, so much so as to plug ourselves into it or it into us, would that not imply a diversion from true experience -awareness through the sense-organs?
If we would shut out the digital input for some time, would we regain the ability to sense the depth of he soul?
Both biological and digital influences may have a profound effect on our most intimate thoughts, our inner life and our experience-awareness or conscious understanding of Self.
How do we define consciousness and is it plausable to agree that different degrees of consciousness exist at different times in our personal and collective development?
It seems the very means by which we are trying to understand consciousness in terms of biology or digital comparisons may be insufficient, or even too underdeveloped, to give an accurate description of what consciousness really is.
We may very well be meeting and creating more modern day desires, programs and realities from an entirely inadequate place of understanding of our very own nature.
If we are to comprehend our destiny as individuals or as a human race, it may serve us well to understand the depth of our very own Nature, in connection with the Nature Kingdom around us and then to design our external programs, growing out of to the depth of our experiences-awareness and understanding of the Nature Kingdom.
Our environment certianly plys a role in our ability to sense or experience life, since our environment can become numbing to the sense be stimulating and activating to the senses.
Yet, ultimately, it is the sense of self and showing up for our work in the world that determines how we would act upon what we sense and experience.
A person with a deep sense love for something, or a determined person will develop a strong will-sense ,even under adverse circumstances. For example, someone like Nelson Mandela, or Ghandi.
They were able to use their talents to contribute to the wellbeing of others and to make a tangible difference in the world.
Noble environments are safe containers/incubators for our growth and development or transformation.
When we enter Retreat-like, peaceful and dedicated spaces our spirits areimmediately lifted and an openness fueled by Grace can enter our being.
Retreat allow for the inner sense of spasciousness, which we can tap into as we enter the inner chambers of the heart.
The empathic Heart is an organ of perception that can commune with the Divine, through a language of the Spirit that is unique to the Heart.
Human Destiny seems to be at risk, due to too many external voices drowning out the voice of the heart.
When we immerse ourselves in nobler environments, where intentional activities take place, our soul life may become so fortified and so imbued with the powerful effects of the heart's message, so much so as to provide us with enough energy to be able to better understand and perceive our Human nature, in relationship with the Nature Kingdom, in terms of our Destiny on Earth.
During the Heartsong Retreat in Hawaii we will explore the 12-senses in comparison to the 5-senses model.
Rudolf Steiner developed the 12-sense model in order to guide the development of the organs for perception even further than the 5-sense model.
Rudolf Steiner looked at how the Earth travels through the 12 known Zodiac signs in cyclical fashion.
In a similar way he noticed how the human being develops, moving through 7-year cycles wherein 12 senses develop over a 21-year period.
Every 7-years, from birth to age 21, 4 particular senses develop.
The richness of these sensory experiences will determine the health of the higher senses which develop later in life .
The organs of function and percption continue to develop alongside our life experiences, they are not fixed, nor fully developed even till much later in life.
You may have noticed how a tiny baby or a young child's being seems part of something intangible, something bigger, much vaster than their small body. An almost tangible sense of Grace fills a home where a young child lives.
The Child's body seems to develop and grow in order to make room for his vastness.
When we explore poetry, music and movement in the early years, we form a better understanding of mathematics and philosophy in the later years.
We become more and more able to translate the vastness into concepts as we grow older and we are supposed to keep growing out of our old sheaths over time.
A child that is truly seen may feel comfortable enough to embody their physical being and over time bring their gifts to Earth, blessing other humand on her path.
Whereas a child that is subjected to harsh and cruel behaviour may retreat into the vastness and withhold their gifts, for fear of abuse.
Neglected children are more likely to hide their gifts, yret the soul lnlogs for their gifts to be expressed. this longing can turn into resentment, fear, doubt or even hatred.
Our human Destiny seems to be at risk due to too many external voices, which drown out the voice of the Heart.
Each and every experience is stored somehwere in the body.
The body takes on the shape of these life experiences.
We can learn to read the body, through being present within ourselves and in so doing to move through suffering into joy.
Rudolf Steiner approached human development in relationship to the development of our 12-senses and how the 12 senses are influenced by experiences over time.
If we take into account what Rudolf Steiner found out about the 12- senses and his contributions to healthy human development, we would most likely create entirely different living conditions, in order to support the healthy development of the 12-senses, in alignment with the natural cycles of nature.
What exactly are the 12-senses according to Rudolf Steiner?
Rudolf Steiner distinguishes 3 human births instead of one (in-fact we experience a kind of birth every 7 years) almost like hatching out of the old shells of an egg).
Steiner makes distiction between the body, mind and soul as a Trinity of our developmental experience.
If we were to collectively agree, at some point in time, that we are no more than the physical body, enhanced by artificiall intelligence, then by implication all soulful personal development, related to the soul, spirit and emotions, all authentic personal revelations, regarding the mystery of life, would immediately cease.
These aspects of our nature would not be accessible from a plugged-in, purely materialistic state of being. Bearing in mind that fallable humand created Ai and then programmed it with highly spesialized focus on only certin area, but neglecting to account for human wellbeing on the other hand.
Human wellbeing is not currently coded into the AI or Cellphone design.
Is it worth losing our sense of Self and soul in a process of technological advancement?
Humanity is heading in this direction.
Instead, Rudolf Steiner offers us an alternative from the perspective of Spiritual Science.
He proposes that the Human being is really a three-fold being with body, soul and spirit imbued with four-fold nature which includes a physical body, etheric body, astral body and ego or sense of self.
Upon the first birth, the child liberates his physical body from the protective sheath of the Mother's body.
The physical body is not yet fully developed between 0-7 and still needs the protective sheaths of the astral and etheric body. The
Instead of the Mother's body, he is now sheathed by his astral and etheric sheaths between ages 0-7.
During this time, the sense of touch, self-movement, balance and the sense of life develops.
All of the impressions experienced, sounds, colors, textures, leave a deep imprint on her body, mind and soul and inform her subsequent development.
The etheric body acts as an architect of the physical body.
The astral body is active at night, even when the physical body sleeps, the astral body should never become the dumping ground for crude pictures before sleep or for worries about money shortly before sleep. Thinking about money before sleep is the most detrimental thing a person can do before sleep.
The internet can not protect the astral body from invasion during sleep.
Better to read uplifting and inspired spiritual books before sleep.
During the second birth from age 7-14, the child liberates his etheric body and is sheathed by his astral envelope, during puberty this means the teenager is very 'open" to astral projections.
From ages 7-14 the astral envelope is liberated and the sense of taste, smell, vision and temperature are developed.
Between ages 14-21 the young adult liberates the astral body and develops the sense of self or ego, The "I am ", sense of concept, language and hearing.
Healthy development of the senses lead from the inner sense of self to the outward sense of sensing another person's "I".
Thus, gaining a sense, through empathic perception and awareness off how the other person feels inside themselves.
Therefore, healthy sensory development is a map for empathic development.
Humanity's emphatic heart is not yet fully conscious (for if it was, we would not have as many wars on this planet ), therefore the etheric heart can easily be bypassed.
Steiner further explains that there are day senses and night senses.
When a human "I" meets another human "I" the day or SUN-senses are awakened.
It is as if 2 Suns meet each other and shine light and warmth onto each other when 2 "I's" meet.
An actual physical sensation of light and warmth, a sort of Divine Grace pouring out from one heart to the next and rippling out into the world!
The beautiful experience of allowing ouselves to be touched by the soul of another human being can not easily be replaced.
